A corporate networking experience in the Kent countryside
Corporate networking events are at their best when guests have the space, setting and structure to connect naturally. For the Insurance Institute of London’s networking event, Opulence welcomed members out of the City and into the heart of the Kent countryside for an exclusive wine experience at Balfour Winery.
Set among 400 acres of vineyards, orchards and woodland, Balfour Winery provided a beautiful backdrop for a corporate event designed around conversation, connection and English wine. Whether enjoyed under blue summer skies or within the cosy warmth of the winery during the cooler months, guests were able to step away from their usual working environment while still experiencing a polished and professionally managed event.
The client brief
The Insurance Institute of London wanted to create a networking event that felt considered, memorable and valuable for its members. As an organisation that provides both professional development and social networking opportunities, the event needed to offer more than a standard drinks reception or corporate lunch.
The aim was to bring members together in a setting that encouraged genuine conversations, while giving them an experience they may not have had before. A Kent vineyard was the ideal environment: close enough to London to be practical, but far enough removed from the City to feel like a real change of scene.
Opulence worked with the Insurance Institute of London to arrange a seamless vineyard experience at Balfour Winery, taking care of the event flow and working closely with the venue team to ensure guests were warmly hosted throughout the day.
The experience at Balfour Winery
Guests began their day by swapping the pace of London for the rolling green hills of Kent. After a short 48-minute journey from London Bridge to Marden, Opulence arranged luxury minibus transport to transfer guests directly to Balfour Winery. Within an hour of leaving London, members found themselves in the heart of the vineyard, welcomed with a glass of English sparkling wine — a seamless and memorable start to the experience.
On arrival at Balfour Winery, members were welcomed into a relaxed and elegant countryside setting, with the vineyard providing an immediate talking point.
The event included a private tour of the estate, giving guests the opportunity to understand more about English wine, the vineyard and the winemaking process. In warmer months, this can include walking through the vines and enjoying the landscape, while in winter, tours can focus on the winery itself, offering a more intimate, behind-the-scenes experience.
This was followed by a relaxed tasting, where members could enjoy Balfour’s award-winning wines while continuing to connect with one another. Seasonal touches can easily be incorporated, from chilled sparkling wines in summer to richer styles and cosy indoor tastings during the colder months.
The format was designed to feel easy and sociable rather than overly formal. The vineyard tour created shared moments and conversation starters, while the tasting allowed guests to continue networking in a natural and enjoyable way.
For corporate groups, this is where vineyard events work particularly well. They provide structure without feeling rigid, and they give guests something to engage with beyond the usual corporate event format.
Why vineyards work for corporate networking events
For organisations planning client entertainment, member events, team away days or networking experiences throughout the year, a vineyard offers a distinctive alternative to a traditional venue.
The setting immediately changes the tone of the day. Guests are no longer walking into another private dining room or hotel conference space. Instead, they are surrounded by vines, views and a sense of place, which helps create a more relaxed environment for meaningful conversations — whether outdoors in summer or inside a welcoming winery space in winter.
English wine also provides a strong point of interest. Many guests are familiar with Champagne or classic wine regions, but fewer have had the chance to experience the quality, story and craft behind English wine first-hand. A hosted vineyard experience gives guests something to learn, enjoy and talk about together.
For the Insurance Institute of London, this combination of setting, hospitality and shared experience made Balfour Winery a strong choice for a corporate networking event in Kent at any time of year.
Client feedback
Following the event, the Insurance Institute of London shared:
“At the IIL, we are committed to providing best-in-class experiences for our members – be that through our incredibly expansive CPD lecture programme, or through social and networking events that create lasting connections and lifelong memories.”
They described the event as “just a bit special” and thanked Opulence for arranging “such an incredible event”.
For Opulence, it was a privilege to work with an organisation that clearly values creating member experiences that go beyond the expected. The event reflected exactly what we believe corporate hospitality should be: beautifully planned, easy for the client, enjoyable for guests and designed to create genuine connection.
The result
The Insurance Institute of London’s networking event brought members together in a relaxed, premium environment outside of London, giving them the opportunity to enjoy English wine, explore one of Kent’s leading vineyards and spend quality time with one another.
By working with Opulence, the client had a single point of contact to coordinate the vineyard experience and ensure the day felt smooth, considered and aligned with the organisation’s objectives.
The result was a corporate networking event that felt personal, distinctive and highly memorable, while still being professionally managed from start to finish.
